Hey there! My name is Karla...

Karla Rosalin Reid. How to pronounce Rosalin? That is actually a really really good question. Roz-a-lin or Rose-a-lin. It actually depends who you ask in my family. So I accept both and I am silently keeping talley to declare the winner one day. If you like, I can fill you in on the middle name story during our session and you can give me your vote while we have a good laugh and capture your moments.

The Story of a Photographer

How did this girl become a professional photographer? It’s actually a long story of steel toed boots turned into the comfiest wedding shoes a girl could find. Growing up in Alberta, I was pushed into an oilfield job. I actually begged to job shadow with a local photographer. But a “reality” check by my guidance counseler led me to apprentice for three years to be an instrument mechanic. But I realized the oil field life and Alberta wasn’t for me anymore and a whole other story in between... landed me in Kelowna 18 years ago. I found a job as a shipper receiver driving a forklift and slinging metal parts for Western Star trucks. Six years in, I attended a friend's wedding. They had a casual wedding where she asked friends to take photos. After we were asked to share them so they had a collection of the day. After sharing my photos, I had her mom ask if I had considered photography and if I would be interested in shooting their other daughter’s wedding. So here I was. Revisiting my teenage dream of being a photographer. Confession... I didn’t even know what professional camera gear looked like. But hey... my 16 year self was screaming at me telling me that I had another chance and I should take it and we would sort the details out along the way. I bought myself an xti and a 70-200 and read my manual front to back and back to front and hit up chapters for a few how to books. Fast forward 12 years later and here I am. Full time professional photographer. I’ll fully admit the word “professional” still seems odd to me but I feel fortunate to have so many couples trust me and let me live out my dream despite my “reality” check from a guidance counselor years ago.

When I'm not shooting

You can usually find me hanging out at the farm with my horses. My husband and I are avid trail riders who love the backcountry. You can find us hiking up Okanagan terrain or exploring the hills in Merrit via horseback. We are always up for exploring any new trail with a view. And occasionally we may be known to take the horses and hit up a local winery or two.

When we aren't at the farm, we are usually doing something outdoorsy. Skidooing, snowboarding, snowshoeing... If you didn't catch on, I actually do love winter! But that doesn't mean we are not above a 711 run and binge watching a good netflix series. Curled up on the couch with a blanket, my husband, the cats, junk food (bottle caps and a Budweiser are my fav by the way) and a good tv series. It's all about balance right!
